Your website(s) are backed up by our servers when possible allowing your website(s) to be backed up incase of server issues which we try to recover from quickly.
However we do like to give you the option to do your own backup's in any instance a backup cannot be recovered.
To make your own backups which can be done easily follow these instructions.
First lets log into CPanel by going to
http://www.your--domain.com/cpanel
(yourdomain.com being your domain name you use.)
Next click on the Floppy Disk image or the Backup link under the image.
On the next screen you will see the following.
System Backups - Select a system backup to download. Under that Weekly or Daily these are generated by the server.
Under that
Full Backups
Generate/Download a Full Backup
Home Directory
Download a home directory Backup
Download a MySQL Database Backup
Download any MySQL backups incase a database gets corrupted
* Download Aliases or Filters Backup
Aliases are used for email Forwarders etc. in your email accounts off of your main domain (and any subdomains you have set up). The cPanel Alias Backup feature backs up your account settings for these aliases --the fact that they exist and what they are -- NOT the entire contents of Forwarded email etc. In other words if you have an email Forwarder set up to forward email from you@your--domain.com (you@yourdomain.com) to you@you--risp.com , that's a setting you've created. The cPanel Alias Backup will back up that setting information so you can restore the Forwarder setting at some later date if you have changed or lost it. It will not back up the actual contents, mail, or files of any email account.
Filters are used for filtering email for spam etc. If you have a whole bunch of email filters you have set up for your main domain email (or for your subdomain email accounts), you can back them up. So if at some later date you delete the email filters and then change your mind and want to restore them, you can do it by Restoring a Filter Backup you have made with the cPanel Filter Backup feature. For instance on one of my own domains I've got about 50 email Filters set up. It hasn't happened yet but if I ever lose these settings for some reason, it would be a pain to remember what I've got being filtered out from where. I could just use the cPanel Filter Restore to restore all these filters at the click of a button.
cPanel Alias/Filter Backups allow you to selectively backup and restore mail aliases and filters for either your main domain or specific subdomains in your account, without affecting any of the rest of your site.
Restore a Home Backup
This allows you to upload any backups you have created in the past and it will restore your files for you. Please note this is not designed for massive files/backups.
Restore a MySQL Database
This allows you to upload a MySQL backup that you downloaded incase corruption occured.
* Restore an Alias/Filter
Read above for a description
Ok these are some of the many options you have available to you.
What we will do next is Generate a complete backup of your website by clicking on Generate/Download a Full Backup under Full Backups.
Next screen shows
Full Backups
Previous full backups saved in home directory:
No Previous Backups - This means that there is currently no backups created by you on the server.
Under this you will see
Generate/Download a Full Backup
Look for Backup Destination: this is where the backup will be created in.
Most users will leave this option at Home Directory as it's the most easiest and simple way to create a backup and download it.
Ok next look for Email Address: this is where you will enter an email address so that you can be notified once the backup of your website is complete.
Depending on the size of your website it may take a while for the backup to occur please give it time to get this done.
Once you have clicked on Generate Backup you will be put through to another page with the following.
Full Backup in Progress...
Once the full backup of your account has been completed you will receive an email message to the address you specified (The Email You Entered.)
This lets you know that the Backup is in progress for you now.
Once you receive the email confirming that the backup has been done login to your FTP account (VIA an FTP Program or try below **) and location the backup file which would look something like backup-7.12.2005_04-32-57_domain.tar.gz this is the file you will need to download.
If you do not get an email login to your FTP Account and download the file there.
Once you download the backup you can safely remove the backup by deleting it from inside the FTP Program or look below for other alternatives.
** You can login to your FTP account by doing the following
Open you your Internet Explorer and type in
ftp://username:password@your--domain.com
Username being the account username. The Password being the password you use for CPanel etc, yourdomain.com being your domain.
Please note this should be done by advanced users.
