Here is how you can easily use HotLink Protection to protect certain images/files on your website.
Do you hate it when people link to images or pages on your website to use on there's? Do you consider it a hassle and them stealing your bandwidth.
Here is how you can protect your images/page/files from prying eyes when you don't want them to.
Login to your CPanel https://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel (yourdomain.com meaning your website address) and scrolling down till you see the words HotLink Protection.
Once the page loads you will see at the top of the page Hotlink protection is currently disabled.
In the bow where URL's or Websites you would like to allow access to your images/pages/files simply enter the URL of the website into the box under the HeadingUrls to Allow Access: (eg http://www.domain.com (http://www.domain.com*)*).
From there at the bottom of the page look for the words Extensions to allow (seperate by commas): (eg. jpg, gif, bmp, html, php, asp and so on**)
If you would like the images/pages/files to show when they copy and paste the URL place a tick in the box beside the text Allow direct requests (ie. entering the url to an image in your browser) or if you wish this to not occur leave it without a tick.
To enable this click on the Activate button at the bottom of the page and hotlink protection will now be activated for you.
To disable this feature click on the Disable button to disable HotLink Protection.
That’s it you are done.
* Demonstration only domain.com would the URL of the website you wish to add to the allowed list of websites to access your files.
** Example of the files you may want to add to the Extensions you wish to protect
