SpamAssassin Included with all Cpanel Accounts.

1. Login to your Cpanel http://www.yourwebsite.com/cpanel

2. Click the Mail Icon and then your in

Mail Manager Main Menu

3. Choose >>> Spam Assassin

Spam Assassin is currently: disabled

4. Click the box: Enable Spam Assassin

5. Click the box: Configure Spam Assassin (required to rewrite subjects)

6. required_score ( we choose to run with 2, default is 5 which you can change at anytime, the lower the number the lower the tolerance for spam.

7. whitelist_from ( add your friends some email addresses here that you wish to ensure email does not become tagged as spam, don't worry you can add more later and emails tagged as spam are not deleted. )

8. Scroll to the bottom and click Save. ( you have other options of blacklisted email addresses and some scores for certain email here is the information on that subject.

Assign scores (the number of points for a hit) to a given test. Scores can be positive or negative real numbers or integers. "SYM-BOLIC_TEST_NAME" is the symbolic name used by SpamAssassin for that test; for example, 'FROM_ENDS_IN_NU'. If only one valid score is listed, then that score is always used for a test. If four valid scores are listed, then the score that is used depends on how SpamAssassin is being used. The first score is used when both Bayes and network tests are disabled. The second score is used when Bayes is disabled, but network tests are enabled. The third score is used when Bayes is enabled and network tests are disabled. The fourth score is used when Bayes is enabled and net-work tests are enabled. Setting a rule's score to 0 will disable that rule from running.

9. Open up your Outlook Express or similar program, this information next is for Outlook Express but all email programs have similar settings.

9.a Click Local Folders or your folder list in outlook express and then right click and Create new folder, name it SPAM.

10. Click Tools / Message Rules / Mail / Select New from the Menu on right.

10.1 Select the Conditions for your rule:

Choose: Where the message body contains specific words.

10.2 Select the actions for your rule:

Choose: Move it to the specified folder.

10.3 Rule Description ( click on an underlined value to edit it. )

contains specific words : / Type in specific words or a phrase, and click Add: ( that box paste these words:

Spam detection software

10.4 Then click the blue highlighted 'specified' and from the list choose your SPAM folder.

10.5 give your rule a name: spam or similar.

10.6 Click Ok

Now what happens is when SpamAssassin tags any email as spam it puts the text Spam detection software of the body of the offending email and those emails are automatically put in your SPAM folder.

You can check these periodically for legitimate emails and empty the folder at anytime, if you see any legitimate emails, grab the email address of the sender and place that email address in your Cpanel / Mail / SpamAssassin / whitelist_from

After a few months as you become confident of your settings and are comfortable with the way in which SPAMASSASSIN is marking the spammers and allowing your legitimate senders through you can change your Message rule to automatically move any Tagged spam to your deleted Items folder in Outlook Express, you can do this by editing your Message Rule.
