We have been asked many times why we don't provide addon domains for free with accounts.
Firstly let me explain: an addon domain is an additional website name that some hosts allow you to place in your account and point to another folder.
Its not the same as a parked domain which points to the same domain name on your account which we allow for free without any charges.
Issues with Addon domains.
1. addon domains are a high support issue
2. addon domains have dns issues and email issues
3. addon domains are sometimes setup for a friend or collegue who ends up spamming or abusing your account in other ways and can cause your hosting account to be terminated.
4. addon domains use your bandwidth, if shared with another person we have seen fights caused between clients because of this.
5. addon domains when setup on servers can soon use up more resources than the original account and you end up with a situation of overloaded servers causing slow loading for all paying clients.
6. If all clients contribute to all domains placed on a webserver your host then can afford to open up new servers as needed because they have revenue from paying clients, hosts who do not practice this method end up either overloading the server or closing down a business leaving all clients with nothing.
7. addon domains do not get put in place automatically from server rebuilds or sever moves and if you have gone and put a business or important account as an addon domain the downtime suffered may cost you more than the cost of a second hosting account.
8. Because of the support issues many hosts who have servers packed full of addon domains may not even support your account properly knowing its full of addon domains returning them nothing, priority always goes to the clients paying normal standard hosting fee's. ( the only exception to this is when a client has multiple paid accounts with a discount and then that client still receives the high priority support.
